HARLEY-DAVIDSON has just announced the latest addition to its 2017 range – the Street Rod.
Harley says it’s a bike that’s built to thrive in the city, while exhilarating beyond it.
The Street Rod has come out of Harley-Davidson’s exiting Street platform, which is why it’s powered by a new high output version of the 750cc ‘Revolution X’ 60° V-twin engine found in the Street 750.
The engine hasn’t been left untouched and Harley says it’ been tuned to produce 20% more claimed peak power and 10% more torque, with a greater rev range.
The extra pounds-foot and ponies comes from a larger airbox, new 42mm throttle bodies, new four-valve cylinder heads, high-lift cams, higher compression ratio (from from 11.0:1 to 12.0:1) and larger exhaust silencer.
Along with the revised engine comes new chassis geometry, with 17 inch wheels front and rear – changes which are designed to give the Street Rod fast and responsive handling, says Harley.
The front end features 43mm USD forks, with shorter rake. Bump absorbtion at the rear is handled by a new pair of rear shocks with external reservoirs. The rear also gets 31% more travel – up to 117mm. To accommodate the taller shocks, there’s a longer swingarm.
The cast aluminium wheels are shod with Michelin Scorcher 21 tyres, with a 120 section front and a 160 rear.
Braking is handled by a pair of ABS equipped twin-piston calipers and 300mm discs.
Revised ergonomics come from a new taller, reshaped seat, near forged brake and gear levers and aluminium footpegs, resulting in greater potential lean on offer when things get a bit more enthusiastic.
There’s also a new drag-style handlebar and new bar end mirrors, plus an LED rear light and indicators.
