One Thousand Miles in 24 Hours on a Harley During 2023 Bike Week!
The Iron Butt Association’s most beloved event – The Bike Week Dinner – was held March 16 – 18, 2017 in JACKSONVILLE, Florida, approximately 80 miles north of the Daytona race track. The dinner was held on Friday, March 17, 2017, Dinner check-in began at noon in the hotel lobby. When I got my flag I choose number 35!
In this video you will see that I was not permitted to record the rider’s safety meeting. I cool with it I love Mike and all those guys. I take off and miss my turn onto I-295 to catch I-95 South to Miami’s first POI on the IBA list. I meet cool people outside a Cuban Restaurant next to a STD health center that the rally Master picked out for us. Thank a lot DUDE! I meet with a student from a nearby college who gives a shout out to my followers. The Next POI is in Naples Florida that creates a route down State Road 41 dap smack in the middle of the Florida everglade…Gator Country!
Dinner was served at 6:00 p.m. We were served a buffet style meal of tossed green salad, Italian pasta salad, Waldorf Salad, Green Beans Almandine, Red Bliss potatoes, steamed mixed vegetables, rice pilaf, sirloin beef tips, roast chicken and assorted desserts. As usual, a cash bar was available. The IBA staff did a short presentation at 8 p.m. which is always fun, however the goal of the two day party is to get a chance to meet fellow long-distance riders, share stories and farkling tips (bring your cameras they said…HA!!!), make new friends and get caught up with old ones – what more could you ask for?
The IBA blocked every room in the hotel for those attending the party, at $73 per night including a full cooked breakfast. The hotel does NOT charge for parking or Internet usage. I roomed with a fellow Miami rider Ignacio who woke up with a flat tire after arriving at midnight. Watch the video as he explains his strategy for confronting his challenge. By the way he is a Hoka hey Motorcycle Rider so what’s he doing on a anti-American bike Hmmmm?!?!?!?!?!?! HA!
The IBA continued the tradition of creating a unique SaddleSore ride for attendees of the Jacksonville party. For 2023 they were pleased to announce the JAX 1000. Once again some Rallymaster had put together a fun ride that will take you around Florida. This year it had to do with the Florida health department and the Villages in Central FL that has the highest rate of STD’s in Florida. It was the weirdest set of POI’s I have ever witnessed in my LDR years of riding!
For those of you who wanted to see if they can hang with the big dawgs, the IBA hosted a BBG ride on Thursday. This is not for the faint of heart as it’s a challenging ride. Don’t say they didn’t warn you and remember: there is no crying in Long Distance Riding. I never cried but I have cried out to God in the name of Jesus to give me strength to complete my runs. I have even argued and conversed with Him why situations were going against me or why was it 38 degrees in FL in March at 4 AM on I-10. Got does not get mad he enjoys seeing us call on Him for His strength when we cant do these tasks on our own. In the Bible god suggests for us to discuss things with Him but I digress.
Now many of you know I am an experienced trial attorney serving the biker community and beyond since 2007. I self finance my runs with no sponsors although in the beginning of my runs I did solicit sponsorship. I got tired of begging so I save up and document my runs. I practice Injury Law, Family Law and some Immigration Law. If you have a friend or family member that that is in need of an Attorney feel confident in referring that person to me. Tell them to JUST CALL GABE #getgabe
