Craigslist Motorcycle Deal Ends In Carjacking
Two men accused of carjacking a craigslist motorcycle from a Cumming resident while holding him
at gunpoint remain at large after leading deputies on a chase down Ga. 400 south Tuesday night.
Around 10 p.m. Nov. 28, two men came to the victim’s house, located on Flowers Drive in
Cumming, in response to a Craigslist Motorcycle advertisement the victim has posted about his 2002
Aprilia motorcycle, according to Cpl. Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the Forsyth County
Sheriff’s Office.
“The [first] suspect, a white male, came to the house and said the guy sitting in the car parked
outside [of the victim’s house] is an Uber driver and he brought him up here,” Rainwater said.
“The victim showed the [suspect] the motorcycle and while the white male was looking at the
bike, a black male pretending to be the Uber driver walked up alongside the white male and
pointed a gun at the victim. The white male jumped on the motorcycle and the black male
jumped back into car and started to drive off.”
Rainwater added the victim, who was also armed, “pulled out a gun and started shooting” at the
suspects, though they were able to get away by going separate directions.
The sedan, which the black male was driving, was never spotted, though deputies who received a
lookout tip from 911 dispatchers saw the motorcycle going southbound on Ga. 400.
“We initiated a chase but canceled the pursuit in Alpharetta,” Rainwater said.
The white male is estimated to be in his late 20s and is described as 6’0” to 6’2” and 190 pounds.
He has sandy blonde hair and was wearing a hoodie sweatshirt.
The black male is also suspected to be in his late 20s, about 5’10” with a slim build. He was wearing a
dark stocking cap and dark clothes, Rainwater said.
He added the sheriff’s office recommends Craigslist transactions be conducted in either of the agency’s
north or south precinct parking lots, to deter any potential criminal activity and avoid situations such
as Tuesday’s.
While violent crime is relatively rare in Forsyth County, in late September of last year, a man was shot
after a Craigslist deal went sour in the parking lot of the Kroger on Peachtree Parkway.
At the time, the victim told deputies he drove his truck across the Kroger parking lot with the suspect in
the vehicle, who shot him in the right side of his ribcage.
The suspect, who was later identified as 32-year-old Grayson resident Robert Edward Frederick, then
reportedly jumped out of the truck, and the victim drove to the front of the Kroger to call for help.
