Motorcyclist Dies At 75, After Wheels Came Off His Trike
A 75-year-old Omaha motorcyclist died of his injuries after one of the wheels came off his three-wheel bike in Sarpy County.
The man, Robert N. Swanson, was westbound on Nebraska Highway 370 near 174th Street when the crash occurred after 3:45 p.m.
Swanson grew up in Wausa, Nebraska, and joined the Navy after graduating from the town’s high school in 1959. He served as a machinist on the USS Piedmont, a destroyer tender built during World War II, until mustering out in 1965.
“It appears that one of the back tires fell off the motorcycle,” said Lt. Dan Golda of the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office.
The motorcycle, a 2013 Harley Davidson Tri-Glide Ultra, veered across the eastbound lanes and crashed into a ditch on the south side of the highway.
Swanson, the only person on the bike, suffered head injuries and was flown by a medical helicopter to the Nebraska Medical Center, where he died about 9:45 p.m. Golda said Swanson was conscious at the scene.
