Jerry Shares His Alaska Moto-Adventure Tale!
By Attorney Gabe Carrera – February 1, 2023
It has been two years since I published any articles in Screaming Thunder! The site has had major upgrades with the best and latest technologies. This Site is about the adventures of the Attorney That RIDES! I re-boot the site with its first post by my good friend Jerry testifying how he met me on the top of the world. Enjoy!
For the last 12 years I have been setting up at the Dania Beach Vintage Bike Show in South Florida. I set up my vendor’s tent as the Attorney That Rides law firm AKA Gabe Carrera, Esq. Biker Attorney to the South Florida Biker Community. I love setting up at the bike show because it turns into a family reunion where people that I have not seen for over a year stop by my tent to give me a hug, to catch up, or to just bring me a juicy cigar. This year, my old Moto adventure buddy that I met at the top of the world stop by. I caught on camera his story on how he met the Attorney That Rides.
The year was 2014 and I had just completed the 2014 Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge. That year I started the challenge in Key West, Florida, and rode a little bit over 10,000 miles up to Homer, Alaska. I’ve never been to Alaska before, but in 2014 I rode up on my Harley-Davidson Road King. Upon completing the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge I went with a few Hoka Hey riders up the Dalton Highway. When we got to Coldfoot, Alaska (above the Arctic Circle), it was raining extremely hard and the road was mushy with lots of mud preventing me from going forward. My goal was to get to Prudhoe Bay at the top of the world on the Arctic Ocean. The other two Hoka Hey riders unfortunately got discouraged turned around and went back to Fairbanks AK.
On the Top of the Mountain Between Coldfoot and Prudhoe Bay in 2015!
I spent two days at the Coldfoot basecamp above the Arctic Ocean on the Dalton Highway that the locals call the slope. I met a gentleman there who was a stunt rider for the James Bond movies. We had been eating and drinking together for those two days. He saw that those that accompanied me abandoned me. He agreed to ride up with me since I was on a Harley, and the road was a little bit treacherous. This especially being advertised as one of the most dangerous roads in the world. The next day the rain stopped, the sun came out, and we headed north to Prudhoe Bay. He taught me how to ride in the mud and how to catch the ruts from the trucks that left its tracks with hardened road underneath. I dropped my bike so many times its not funny…..no it was hilarious!
Gabe at the Arctic Circle in 2015 One Year after Meeting Jerry!
Here Jerry tells his story how he met me in his own words. Jerry is 82 years old and I wanted to document his tail from his once in a lifetime Moto adventure in what is known as the final frontier of motorcycle riding in Alaska. Every year Jerry comes, and we have a fun time laughing and reminiscing over our adventure in Alaska. Jerry always puts a smile on my face and it’s a pleasure to see him.
