The American Legion Post 180 (S.FL) Hosts World Record Holder Biker International Send Off Party!
The American Legion Post 180 (S.FL) Hosts World Record Holder Biker International Send Off Party!
It all started with a bored Long Distance Riding Biker who decided to ride half the Earth as he did in 2015 on a damn Harley. As his wife was giving him the stinky eye for spending $$$ on an International Motorcycle run instead of investing in his home Gabe Carrera, aka the Attorney That RIDES, was California dreaming for a good date to take off. Gabe picked April 19, 2019 to fly down to Santiago, Chile. Gabe planned to ride from Ushuaia, Argentina to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska on a 2019 Harley Road Glide bagger!
Gabe is a member of the American Legion Post 180 located in Plantation, FL as a SAL member. After picking a date he found himself having a good time in the Post when he heard the lease of Post 180 was soon to expire in about two (2) years. You see, the Post owns the building but Broward County owns the land. Gabe is an Injury and Family Law Attorney, but he is not a Real Property Attorney with experience that can negotiate a lease extension with the County. Gabe wanted to keep the Post open so he decided to raise $$$$ to help the post get the legal help it needs to secure an extension of the lease.
Gabe went to the American Legion Post 180 commander Buddy Love……LOL…..yes Buddy Luv! Buddy welcomed the idea for the run to raise $$$$$ for the Post. Gabe suggested a send off party where supporters can come have a good time, hear a live band, and drop a donation in the bucket for the fundraising drive. The members loved the idea and thus send off party came to be.
THE GRINDSTONE SINNERS
The send off party for Gabe started off with a band from Daytona Beach called the Grindstone Sinners. They had played at Post 180 about a year ago and many of the American Legion Riders of Post 180 were excited on them playing there again. The Grindstone Sinners are a five-piece rock band from Daytona Beach, Florida. Heavily influenced by the spirit of 60’s rock-n-roll, they write and perform their own songs. Known for electrifying live performances and infectious original songs they are quickly acquiring a loyal fan-base in the Central Florida area. They play from 7 PM to 9 PM and then come back for the After-Glow Jam Session from 12:30 AM to 4 AM. This is some MUST SEE TV!
- Grindstone Sinners were awarded the 2018 Singer Songwriter Showcase of America Best Band of the Year Award.
- Grindstone Sinners have been featured on 104.1’s The Phillips Phile. Jim Phillips was amazed by how powerful their music was.
- Grindstone Sinner’s guitarist, Jay Umlauf, was the 2017 Winner of the Singer Songwriter Showcase of America Award for Best Musician of the Year.
SOUTHERN BLOOD BAND
It didn’t take long for folks to hear about Gabe riding for the South Florida Veterans of Post 180 when Gabe got a surprise offer from the Southern Rock band of all times named “SOUTHERN BLOOD!” Alan Vine the bassiest sprung the idea on his band members to support gabe’s efforts in raising $$$$ for Post 180. Southern Blood lead singer and band manager Jimi Robinette called saying the band Southern Blood is coming to rock because the WHOLE band supports the troops, the vets and the families! The Members of the post got all excited they started a Facebook events page to promote the event even more.
The Southern Blood Band is a “Salute to American Southern Rock” covering a wide range of music from artists such as The Allman Brothers Band, Molly Hatchet, The Marshall Tucker Band, Blackfoot, .38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and more. Their performance is a throwback to the 70’s and early 80’s with an unmistakable hard driving groove, signature Southern vocals, and dueling guitar force. The Southern Blood Band delivers it as it was meant to be: ”Kick Ass.” Southern Blood plays Lynyrd Skynyrd , ZZ Top , Molly Hatchet , 38 Special , Blackfoot , CCR , Black Crowes , Allman Brothers , Blackberry Smoke and many more !!
LATIN AMERICA MARIACHI BANDS
Gabe put his hands into his pockets and hired a band of Mexican Mariachis from Miami for the send off. Gabe used them before for The Attorney That RIDES Law Firm’s Christmas party. Gabe broke down in Chiapas, Mexico during Hurricane Carlos in 2015 and stuck around for ten days. Gabe wants to give the Post supporters a short 30-minute taste of a lively Mariachi Band. They will be playing by the bar as the Grindstone Sinners break down and Southern Blood warms up.
There are many more things like event specific tee shirts that will be ready for the event. These shirts will be sold for $15 or 2 X $25. As the artwork gets completed Screaming Thunder will make the design available for its readers. The drink specials are out of this world with prices that will save you enough $$$$, literally, to come and leave in an UBER!
If you cant make it to the Fundraising send off, but you want to donate to support your local south Florida veterans here is the link!
